Tip for Toddlers Who Whine & Stall at Bedtime!

TODDLERS WHO WHINE AND STALL AT BEDTIME

Who feels this…everything was going great until you announce it’s bedtime, and now your toddler is clinging to your leg?

Toddlers have major FOMO at bedtime and often end up spending over an hour bargaining, arguing, tantruming, and just flat out not wanting to cooperate. These whining and stalling tactics can be a way that they are asking for more connection with you!

Although we are all so busy throughout the day I recommend setting a couple alarms for 2 “connection sessions” with your child each day! These are 10 minute sessions where you put the phone down and do whatever your child wants to do (within safety and reason).

Not only does this help you rediscover the joy of playing but it also helps fill your child’s “bucket” of connection time with you.

Have a cheery fun little song you sing to announce the connection session, and start to watch your child’s eyes light up in recognition and excitement when they hear it each day!

Your little one will catch on to the idea pretty quickly and start coming up with their own ideas for play and connection, but here are a few suggestions to get you started:

🥳 sing, dance, act silly
🥳 act out animal walks
🥳 stacking cups
🥳 hide and seek
🥳 water play
🥳 draw faces to identify emotions
🥳 get down a special toy or game that is reserved only for connection sessions!
